Spotlight on: Christelle

Christelle’s story is one of inspiration, if only because she proves through her determination that it’s never too late to reach your dream. Christelle came to NEFDA as a lawyer with a goal of learning to draw and design costumes. While she enjoyed the research basis of her legal background, Christelle was constantly drawn to the creative world. However, she notes her desire to follow her dream and make a career move had “something scary about it”. With NEFDA’s push, Christelle gathered the courage to reach into the world of fashion. The talented student found herself attracted to the extravagance of costume design, and through New England Fashion + Design Association’s lessons, is building a portfolio. When asked about her long term goals, Christelle admits:

"I hope to get into a costume design program, which is why I came here. I never took an art class, except for high school. I needed to get the basics. I couldn’t even draw when I came here."

Christelle draws her inspiration from the style era of the 1920s-1930s. She ultimately hopes to design costumes for movies, though realizes theater is a channel she should consider.
