Russell Fairchild of Wilton, 71, Retired Norwalk Fire Captain

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, Dec 17 from 4:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave, Norwalk.


Russell D. Fairchild, age 71 of Wilton, was injured on Oct. 11 at the Wilton Transfer station. The incident happened when an 87-year-old driver drove at a high rate of speed toward Fairchild, who was standing at the rear of his vehicle. 

According to Wilton Police, Fairchild fell to the ground and the 87-year-old drove over Fairchild's left leg and dragged him approximately 15 feet.

Fairchild's family reported to Patch on Dec. 15 that Fairchild had been recovering, but took a turn for the worse and died on Friday, Dec. 13 at Norwalk Hospital.

Russell D. Fairchild, age 71 of Wilton, beloved husband of Mary (Ryan) Fairchild for 53 years, died on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 at Norwalk Hospital.

Born in Norwalk, he was son of the late Lester Ellison and Rosalie (Russell) Fairchild. Russell was a retired Norwalk Fire Captain serving Norwalk for 25 years.

Russell enjoyed the outdoors and took great pride in his home. He loved spending time with his wife and their cats. He is also survived by four sons: John (Linda), Douglas (Michelle), Daniel (Jaci) and Michael Fairchild, four grandchildren; Allison, Kailee, Emilee and Jonathan, as well as a sister, Carol Smith of Montana, and two nephews, Chris and Russell Smith.

His family will receive friends on Tuesday, Dec 17 from 4:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave, Norwalk.

Other services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Russell’s name to: the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 234 Danbury Rd, Wilton, CT 06897.
