To the Editor:
My father, Walter Owen Briggs III, who moved to Wilton in 2009 passed away on Saturday, November 24 from complications of a stroke.
Before that time he was a long-time resident of Rowayton. In the course of the three years that he lived in Wilton, his health had been declining but he embraced his new community with great warmth and enthusiasm and the community did not let him down.
This year he had two critical health events, the stroke and a severe episode of COPD earlier this summer for which we needed the assistance of the local emergency services.
My family and I would like to commend the local first responders for their rapid response, professionalism, care and concern. For both events, the police and fire were there within five minutes and the EMS were on the scene in less than 15 minutes.
While my father did not survive his stroke due to its severity combined with other health complications, we are grateful and take great comfort that we live in such a well-served community.
