PTA: "Thank You" for a Successful Winter Carnival

Money was raised and a good time was had by all this past Saturday at Wilton's annual Winter Carnival.

The Winter Carnival, held on March 10th, was a tremendous success. This annual PTA fundraiser is a favorite of children and parents, and is a wonderful way to enjoy family time while supporting our school. Carnival games, crafts, and delicious food all added to the festivities leaving attendees smiling and entertained.

The hard work of student and parent volunteers makes this event possible.   Thanks to our enthusiastic student volunteers from the Wilton Girl Scout Troops, Wilton High School Key Club, Top Inclusion Model Students, , National Honor Society and to name a few. They got sticky at cotton candy, fielded flying soccer balls, painted faces and everything in between. Parent volunteers were present at every booth to assure that children would have a chance to win games, create artwork and enjoy all the Carnival had to offer.

The Miller-Driscoll administration and teachers donated their time and talent, making the Winter Carnival a wonderful fundraiser to help bridge the gap between the Wilton Board of Education budget and the needs of the school. We would like to give a very special “Thank You” to the custodians, who dedicated many hours to the set-up, breakdown, and cleanup of the event. Their expertise, knowledge of the school and manpower got us through the day, and restored the school to its normal shape for classes Monday morning. We could not have done it without them.

We would like to extend a big thank you to the following local businesses, who generously donated their products and services: Applegate Farms, , Costco, , , , Freihofer's Bread and the .  Also, we thank the for their generous contribution to our silent auction and helping to control traffic and parking at this popular event.

Last, but certainly not least, thank you to the committee chairs and PTA members, who spent months preparing for this day. Thanks to Hillary Morrissy & Carla Quigg (Class Projects/Games); Heather Pettit & Tracy Taylor (Giving Tree); Christina Lenz and Lisa Smith (Café); Wendy Eusebe and Sarah Simmons (Cotton Candy/Popcorn); Laurie Musilli (Grab Bags); Lisa Finn (Bake Sale); Janel Cassara (Prizes); Anne Casher & Kim Wiener (Crafts); Joanna Rodriguez-Seiffer (Student Volunteer Coordinator); Lori Fusco (Publicity/Signs);  Farrah Minnich, Randi McDonnell & Laure Freidman (Silent Auction); and Joel Krawitz (Set-up/Breakdown).

Thanks to our PTA Treasurer Tara Snow & to Maria Wilcox for handling the cash and checks while keeping an eye on the bottom line. Also, we'd like to extend our most sincere thanks to our Interim PTA  President Heather Pettit, who in addition to her duties as Giving Tree Co-Chair, lent support and guidance throughout this process. It was our pleasure to work with such a competent and enjoyable group. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Sincerely,

Sabeth Albert, Evelyn Drew, Sheila Krawitz, Tiffany Tecce

Hang on a second - a few comments back - did Tiffany a PTA member at the High School really come charging in and force out our Miller President and VP ? If this is true - this person has caused all the trouble and not Patch Posters - anonymous or otherwise. If this is true - there is no Board, no Exec Committee just some sort of wild west fiasco. The PTA is done for the year. Enough said . This us crazy and outrageous if true. Sure Women in History and Visiting Author should go forward. We raised the money for it. School Administrators should run it and ask for parental volunteers - as always. But nothing requiring a Board decision should happen until the fall. Their is no Board at Miller if the High School PTA thinks they run it. Again if true ... Stop the madness - this is not how organizations function. Someone named JJ calling someone else a troll ??? Game over - go home ! So sad - but enough. Volunteers please continue to volunteer. We raised money last weekend for planned programs to happen. But nothing else should be started until this sad state if affairs passed. I heard at Starbucks the other day that one if the "big" disagreements is over a parking space ! Lynne Tinache would nit have put up with this. Dr Richards - please step in. I will not attend tomorrow's meeting as it has no zero nada relevance until we have answers about what happened in the Feb !

First of all, thanking the volunteers who made this event a success does not preclude honest discussion that stems directly from the article posted above. I am grateful to "huh" for noting that Tiffany Teece has still been allowed to remain in place while the president and vp of the MD PTA were ousted by very shady means. I'm not sure I would have noticed and it led to a very important discussion. I think there's been a clear consensus that parents want the upsetting, underhanded tactics that ruled this PTA to STOP and a clean start with new faces. It's not helpful and frankly, upsetting, to label any question or attempt at dialogue "negativity." I'm glad that this thread has led to a call for an evening meeting with plenty of notice and an actual, honest election of new officers. And of course, thank you to all the volunteers who made the carnival such a success!

First off thank you fellow volunteers !! We done good last weekend. We raised a bunch of money for some great spring projects ! Visiting authors Among many others !! Administrators & Teachers - run with it - the funding is there. If you need volunteers ask - we will help of course !! But the PTA as an organization is done for the year. A few crazy ladies - and you know who you are - broke the unbreakable ! Congrats!! Unless a full blown meeting is held - at a time when any patent can show up, listen and be heard - the PTA is done for the year. We have raised the money. Miller faculty and Administrators go forth and spend it and make for a great Spring. But Kimbers - I love ya but, this ship has sailed for the year. Any meeting tomorrow will be a sham. Stop pretending otherwise folks !! Until September...! And to those of you in the PTA "Leadership" thanks so much ... Go help out with the field hockey program ! Fellow volunteers - keep it up !!!

It is the only personal ethic that makes sense and is something the schools should be instilling in its curriculum. Private schools do (at least many of them) but public schools have been doing exactly the opposite. The result? Nearly half the population thinks the government 'owes them a living."
