As we begin what we in the theater world call “Hell Week” – the last week of rehearsals before a show opens – we thought we’d shed a little light behind the scenes. We asked the cast and crew of Italian American Reconciliation some questions and we'd like to share their answers with you. First we spoke with Robyn Mortiboys:
What is your role / function? How did you come to be involved?
"I am the Stage Manager. I was asked to help out way back in the spring. I had stage managed ‘Mrs. Warren’s Profession’ here last November and we had a great time."
How would you describe this play to someone who hasn’t seen it?
"West Side Story meets Cyrano meets Kill Bill."
What's been your favorite part of the production process so far?
"My favorite part is always when the actors realize that they’re off-book and they’re confident enough to play with the character. The audience only sees one version of a scene but I get to see many different interpretations."
Were there any surprises?
"The magical appearance of the set. We were out of the theatre for a couple of days and when we came back, the set appeared, almost completely finished. Pop’s Soup House was finally brought to life!"
Why should people come to see this play?
"Poetry, comedy, violence, drama, and a fairy tale moral at the end. What’s not to enjoy?"
The show will be presented Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm November 16th through December 8th, with Sunday matinees November 25th and December 2nd at 2pm. Tickets are $24 for adults and $20 for students/seniors (62). Cabaret seating, doors open one hour prior to curtain.
