Cos Cob Man Charged with Engaging Police in Pursuit

The man allegedly fled the scene of an accident.

 

Justin Smith, 32, of Cos Cob was charged with engaging in pursuit, reckless driving, evading responsibility, driving without insurance, disobeying the signal of an officer, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after he fled the scene of a two-car accident on Route 7 near Kent Road.

An officer responded to the accident, and while there, saw a gold Civic, the same car the victim reported being rear-ended by. When the officer saw the car, he turned on his lights and Smith took off. The officer finally caught up with the driver at Old Belden Hill Road.

Smith was held on $250 bond and is due in court Feb. 4.

Sangeetha Nair, 22, of Middlebrook Farm Road was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions following a one-car accident while negotiating a curve on Ridgefield Road.

While driving during icy conditions, Nair attempted to correct her car when it slid and struck a curve, causing her vehicle to roll over onto its roof.

Ridgefield Road was closed for about an hour on Jan. 28 at 10:55 p.m.
