Darien Resident Arrested for Heroin, Prescription Pill Possession

A Darien resident was reportedly found with heroin, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle in Wilton July 11, according to police.

An officer first noticed a car parked on Old Highway Extension at about 7:50 p.m. with its lights on, and went over to check out the car when it was still there at about 8:30 p.m., according to police.

Nicholas deSpoelberch, a 35-year-old of 44 Phillips Lane, was reportedly sleeping in the car, which was turned off although its lights were on. When the officer woke deSpoelberch, he appeared to be under the influence of something, police said.

Mr. deSpoelberch told the officer he was on oxycodone and allegedly also showed a baggie with five 10mg oxycodone pills and three 0.1mg clonidine pills that he said he had gotten from someone else, according to police.

Police then checked the car and allegedly found a zippered briefcase with three full folds of heroin and a few empty folds in it, as well as several needles and spoons, police said.

Mr. deSpoelberch was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and having pills that were not in their original container. His bond was set at $2,500 and his court date is scheduled for July 22, according to a news release.

Mr. deSpoelberch is dean of students at Regis High School in New York City, according to the Wilton Bulletin.
