Did Anyone See the Vehicle that Sheared a Utility Pole from Its Base?

Wilton Police found a utility pole laying across Cannon Rd with its wires still attached. Evidence suggests a vehicle struck the pole and left the scene before police arrived.

On Nov. 7 at 3:41a.m. Wilton Police were called to check on wires down near Cannon Rd and Sturges Ridge Rd. When a patrol unit arrived, he found a CL&P utility pole laying across Cannon Rd with the wires still attached, and evidence that a vehicle had struck the pole and sheared it off about 2-3 ft from its base, according to Wilton Police.

The vehicle had left the scene before police arrived, according to Wilton Police. The road was shut down for several hours.

Several parts belonging to the vehicle were recovered at the scene, according to Lt. Wakeman who said that police are often able to trace an car part's identification number back to a car's make or model. Police also contact area auto body shops to see whether anyone with a vehicle matching the description has brought in a vehicle.
