Elderly Wilton Man Scammed out of $900

He thought his grandson was incarcerated in Mexico.

An 85-year-old Cheese Spring Road man reported to police he was scammed out of $900 after he wired money to someone claiming to be his grandson, who said he was incarcerated in Mexico.

After the man wired the money, he got in touch with his grandson on the phone, who said he was fine.

The man then tried to stop the money transfer, but it was too late.

The incident was reported to police at 12:50 p.m. on Jan. 30. 

Police said anyone who receives phone calls they think might sound suspicious should call the Wilton Police Department.
