Fairfield Car Thief Gets Caught Redhanded By Owner

At , a variety store in New Canaan, on Dec. 12 at about 1 p.m., a 64-year-old female told police in a report filed the next day, . The complainant reported that she was in the store purchasing candy. She filled a bag and walked over to place it on the counter, leaving her jewelry near the "penny candy" containers. When she returned, she told police, her bag was gone. According to the report, the woman told police the bag contained two rings: an emerald and diamond ring set in platinum and another set with a tanzanite stone and diamonds set in white gold estimated at a total value of $23,000.

A 54-year-old resident of Harrison Ave., New Canaan called police on Dec. 16 to report that . The woman told police that she had seen a television report the night before about a woman arrested in Fairfield for stealing jewelry from a home. She recognized her as a distant relative who had been at her home for a family funeral on Nov. 18. Prompted to check her own belongings, she told police that she found she was missing four pieces of jewelry valued at slightly more than $600 total.

A Fairfield resident woke up to find his . The stolen vehicle -- which is currently decked out for Christmas with a red nose and antlers -- was locked, but his other vehicle wasn't. The unlocked car had keys for the stolen vehicle inside.

Darien police say a was reported stolen from the front door of a West Road home after it’d been delivered by UPS. At about 4:20 p.m. on Dec. 17, police say they received a call reporting the larceny. UPS had said the item was delivered but “someone obviously had taken it,” according to police.

On Monday, Dec. 19, Wilton police from , according to police reports. Police said they received a complaint from CVS employees about a possible female shoplifter. The woman left the store prior to the arrival of officers, but police were able to track her down, police said.
