Greenwich Mercedes Driver Charged with Failure to Obey Traffic Signal after Accident on Rt. 7

A 62 year-old Greenwich driver and her 91-year-old passenger were involved in an accident with a 20-year-old Bethel driver on Rt. 7 on Thanksgiving.

On Thanksgiving, Nov. 28, Sherry Senger, 20, of Bethel exited Rt 107 onto Rt. 7 in a 2005 Saturn Ion with a green traffic light and was struck by a 2013 Mercedes ML350 driven by Ann Teresa McCarthy, 62, of Old Greenwich.

According to a Wilton Police accident report, McCarthy, who had a 91-year-old passenger in her Mercedes, Eleanor Foy of Wilton Crest, complained of shortness of breath but declined transport to the hospital. Foy was not injured.

Senger complained of chest and back pain and was transported to Norwalk Hospital by Georgetown EMS.

According to Wilton Police McCarthy's Mercedes was headed north and the light had just changed to red. Senger's car had pulled out for a green light. There was a witness in the right lane.

McCarthy was charged with Failure to obey a traffic signal and has an answer date of Dec. 13.

There were so many accidents on Thanksgiving and throughout the weekend this year. Just a fyi, there's more than one witness to this accident, but the Wilton police are a special breed. A friend of mine was heading south on rt 7 when this happened and said she had a yellow light and presumably the Mercedes driver had one too. I have to think that a 62 yr old with a 91 yr old has a few more years of driving under their belt than a 20 year old. I've been at that light several times, it's a horrible intersection.
