A 34-year-old mother was charged with risk of injury to a child after she allegedly left her four-year-old son in the car while temperatures were in the 20’s, police said.
This is the second time in two weeks that Westport police have charged a mother for leaving a young child unattended while temperatures were below freezing.
Kristen Becker, of 136 Arbor Drive, Southport, went for a mid-winter tan at Palm Beach Tan, located at 1854 Post Road East, but about five minutes into her session her son walked into the store alone while not wearing a jacket, according to the arrest report.
“When Becker was told by employees that the child was in the establishment, Becker told the child that he was supposed to stay in the car,” the arrest report states.
Becker was taken into custody at her home on Saturday at about 4 p.m. and was later released after posting a $2,500 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on February 11.
