New York Woman Held on Burglary, Larceny Charges

A woman who has been arrested numerous times on burglary charges was taken into custody by Westport police last week for allegedly burglarizing a dry cleaning store twice in 2011.

Theresa Clinding is accused of entering Silver Hanger Cleaners, 35 Danbury Rd., through an unlocked rear door on Oct. 15, 2011, and stealing a purse that contained $200 to $300 and several credit cards.

Later that day, police said, Clinding attempted to use one of the stolen cards at a bank ATM in Greenwich. A bank surveillance camera took a photo of Clinding that Wilton Police later used to identify her.

Police allege Clinding returned to the business on Nov. 15, 2011, again entered it through an unlocked rear door, and stole a satchel containing approximately $5,000 in cash plus business records.

On Tuesday, Lt. Donald Wakeman said detectives acquired information in July 2012 linking Clinding to the burglaries. Wilton police obtained a warrant for her arrest and she was extradited from New York to Connecticut on June 14.

She was arrested later that day by Stamford police on burglary and larceny charges for allegedly burglarizing a restaurant.

Clinding, 45, of 115 Peninsula Blvd. in Hempstead NY, was charged by Wilton Police with two counts of third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny, and sixth-degree larceny.

She was held on $25,000 bond and given a court date of July 16.

Clinding was arrested at state Superior Court in Norwalk where she was appearing on burglary charges brought against her by Westport police. Police in that town accuse Clinding of burglarizing a restaurant in June 2012.

In May 2012, New Rochelle, NY, police arrested Clinding for allegedly burglarizing a restaurant and making off with a large amount of cash.

In July 2004, Clinding was convicted in Nassau County, NY, of third-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny, and possession of marijuana.

Clinding is being held at the York Correctional Center in Niantic in lieu of combined bonds of $200,000.
