Deirdre M. Daly, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Sentrell Bookhardt, 27, of Norwalk, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny in Hartford to 60 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for possessing a machine gun.
According to court documents and statements made in court, at approximately 5:00 p.m. on January 26, 2013, Bookhardt ran from a Norwalk Police officer in the Meadow Gardens Housing Complex in Norwalk and discarded a blue backpack.
Examination of the backpack revealed a black, steel machine gun missing its stock, and an extended magazine loaded with 27 rounds of ammunition. Bookhardt was arrested later that evening.
Bookhardt has been detained in state custody since his arrest.
On October 3, 2013, he pleaded guilty to one count of possession of an unregistered machine gun.
Bookhardt's criminal history includes three convictions stemming from the unlawful possession of firearms.This matter was investigated by the Norwalk Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Vanessa Richards.
