Pair Flee Wilton after Stop & Shop Theft

Wilton shoplifters arrested outside Norwalk DMV at gunpoint after giving chase.

Wilton police arrested a pair of Fairfield County men accused of stealing $360 worth of goods from Stop & Shop on Aug. 14 and then leading a motor vehicle pursuit.

Christopher Barocsi, 29, of Newtown and Gregory Whren, 51, of Bridgeport, each are charged with larceny. Whren additionally is charged with reckless driving and engaging police in pursuit.

Barocsi and Whren were spotted by store manager of Stop & Shop on River Road without paying for assorted items including deodorant, mouthwash and gum valued at approximately $360, according to Wilton Police.

After a foot chase, Barocsi and Whren dropped the items and fled to a 2002 Jeep Islander. The manager of Stop & Shop gave the vehicle description to 911 and the operator subsequently engaged police in pursuit. The operator and passenger were ultimately apprehended at gunpoint outside Norwalk DMV on Rte. 7 and more stolen items were located in the vehicle. 

Both parties were transported to court on August 15th.
