Police Selective Enforcement Nets Drunk Driver near Wilton High School

A Wilton woman, Kerry Byrnes, 42, of 322 Mountain Rd, was arrested on Dec. 28 during a selective enforcement stop by Wilton Police. Byrnes had been traveling northbound by Allens Meadows, just past Wilton High School, when she was stopped for having a headlight out on her 2004 Volvo V7.

During the stop, Byrnes, who had her 6-year-old in the car, told police she had been at a friend's house babysitting and had had a glass of wine. The officer smelled alcohol and administered field sobriety tests, which Byrnes did not successfully complete.

Byrnes' BAC was .154 which is nearly double the legal limit of .08.

Byrnes was charged with having an improper number of headlights, driving under the influence and risk of injury to a minor, a misdemeanor.

The child was turned over to the father and Byrnes was later released on a Promise to Appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Jan. 7.
