Preliminary investigation reveals that this Trooper interrupted an armed robbery taking place inside the Patriot Fuels building. The Trooper confronted the armed suspect and gave him directives.

The suspect failed to comply with those directives and forced the Trooper to discharge his firearm, striking the suspect.  This male suspect was subsequently pronounced deceased on scene.

Milford Police officers and Troopers from the area immediately responded to the scene to render assistance. A store clerk inside the building during the incident was unharmed. The involved Trooper was transported to an area hospital for an evaluation of minor injuries.
