Punches Thrown, Alert Witnesses Help in Road Rage Incident

A road rage incident ends in charges of breach of peace for father and son.

On Nov. 21 at 8:04a.m. at the merge just south of Rt 7 and Rt 107 intersection, an incident took place that Wilton Police describe as road rage, resulting in John Goodwin, 55, of 20 Sheraton Drive, Poughkeepsie, NY and Daniel Goodwin, 28, of 12 Park Place, Pleasant Valley, NY each being charged with Breach of Peace.

According to Lt. Wakeman, Wilton Police received multiple witness reports of the incident leading up to the arrest of the Goodwins. 

The victim, who was traveling southbound in a 2002 Nissan, attempted to merge in front of the Goodwins' Jeep Cherokee, according to Wilton Police.  The Nissan was forced to merge behind the Jeep, and, subsequently, the Nissan passed the Jeep and merged in front of it, after which, the Goodwins, in their Jeep, tailgated the victim, 47. 

Next, according to witnesses, the Jeep pulled alongside the victim at a red light, exited his car, approached the victim and a punch was thrown. According to Wilton Police the victim had a mark on his chin, though both parties admitted to exiting their vehicles and neither party admitted to throwing any punches.

According to the Wilton Police report, after the punches were thrown the victim pulled his car door closed and both parties drove away.

Witnesses had called 911 and Police were able to locate and stop the victim in his vehicle. Police also located the accused in the area of Wilton High School. Both John and Daniel Goodwin were released on Promises to Appear and have a shared date in court of Dec. 2, 2013.
