Unusual Arrests: Woman, 73, Arrested for Keying Six Cars in Greenwich

The suspect is from the Pemberwick section of Greenwich, which is where previous vandalism of cars has taken place.

Police arrested Janina Slomiana, 73, of 120 Pemberwick Rd. in Greenwich on Sunday morning after officers determined that she was vandalizing vehicles parked along Pemberwick Rd.

Slomiana was charged with six counts of criminal mischief in the first degree, a Class D Felony, all of which occurred on Sunday, Sept. 8, according to Greenwich Police.

Slomiana was arrested and later released from custody on a promise to appear. She was assigned a court date of Sept. 16, 2013 at Stamford Superior Court.

"At this point we're still investigating. Although there have been numerous other vandalisms down in that area, right now we cannot definitely link her back to those. However, we are still investigating previous keyings of cars in that area," said Greenwich Police public information officer Lt. Kraig Gray.

"Many crimes, particularly of this type, are solved based upon good citizens being watchful," Gray said. "In this instance, a good citizen observed her acting suspiciously and she realized she was keying a car and she was caught in the act. And that good citizen contacted the police who came out and located several area witnesses and made an arrest."

Here are recent Greenwich Patch stories about cars being vandalized in Western Greenwich. These cases are still under investigation and Slomiana has not been linked to any of them.
