A 42-year-old man was arrested by on Monday for driving under the influence of alcohol after he hit the back of another driver's car, according to Sgt. John Lynch.
The victim, Lynch said, was driving southbound on Route 7 and proceeded to stop at the entrance of Wilton High School. After stopping, she told police that she heard a screeching noise and something hit her rear bumper. A witness to the accident told police that the driver of the car that hit the victim was unable to explain where he was going or whether he had drunken any alcohol that day. The witness also smelled an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle.
When police officers arrived, they observed that John O'Hara of 345 Mountain Road, Wilton, had slurred speech and difficulty standing. In addition to being charged with a DUI, O'Hara was also charged for having an expired vehicle registration sticker. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 26.
