Woman Charged with Larceny for Dumping Garbage

The owner of a Dumpster had enough.

A 61-year-old woman was charged with larceny in the sixth degree after the owner of a Dumpster caught her throwing away two garbage bags in it at the Danbury Road business complex he owns.

Elizabeth Mellor, from Wellfleet, Mass., was arrested on Sept. 10 at 2:13 p.m.

While at first it might not make sense that one could be convicted of theft by leaving something behind, police said the woman was stealing the service from the owner of the Dumpster. According to police, the owner had to make extra runs to dump the garbage because it filled up so quickly.

Mellor was issued misdemeanor summons and was released on a promise to appear at an Oct. 9.
