Wrong Car Stopped for Suspicion of Evading, Driver Busted for Pot and Other Charges

Wilton Police were helping Ridgefield Police look for a red car that evaded responsibility. The unlucky driver of a similar car in Wilton was stopped. The odor of marijuana led to multiple charges.

On Nov. 19, Ridgefield Police asked for assistance from Wilton Police in trying to locate a red 2005 Ford Mustang with front end damage that was recently involved in a motor vehicle accident and evading responsibility.

Wilton Police stopped a red vehicle at Rt. 107 and New Street, which was operated by Blake Haehl, 21, of 215 Horshoe Lane, Fairfield, and matched the description from Ridgefield Police. Wilton Police found the operator in possession of marijuana and driving under suspension.

Ridgefield Police later confirmed that the vehicle stopped was not the evading vehicle, according to Wilton Police.

Haehl was charged with possession of marijuana, suspended operator's license and failure to return a driver's license, and has a court date of Nov. 29.
