Anthony LoFrisco Shares His Handouts from the P&Z Field Lighting Hearing

Wilton Patch aims to be a source of news as well as a community engagement platform. To that end, letters the editor on the lighting proposal may be submitted to the editor for publication.

The attached documents were submitted to Patch by Wilton resident Anthony LoFrisco.

The PDF files are copies of handouts Lo Frisco made available to the public at last week's Planning & Zoning Commission hearing, during which he presented his point of view.

Last week's public hearing at Wilton Library allowed for public comments on a proposal to change the standards for illumination of athletic fields

Mr. Lo Frisco, previously a member of the P&Z commission, spoke against the amendment to the regulation to allow for upgrades in lighting at Middlebrook Field.

Wilton Patch coverage of the hearing garnered multiple reader comments, some in favor of the amendment and others opposed to it.

Here is a sampling of reader comments:

"AZ" kicked off the discussion with this comment:
"It is time to light it up! Make those fields into a multi-sports complex open to all and fix that parking lot which is totally inadequate."

Elyse expressed concern about future projects:
"The problem that was brought to light (pardon the pun) is that a change to an overall change to the zoning regulations in regards to these lights is being sought. This would mean that, if passed, anyone with an 'athletic facility' (etc.) would be permitted to erect 70 foot lights in their area, which could be your neighbor's backyard for all you know...."

Diane Kuczo rebutted as follows:
"I support the turf project, and the lighting. If you read the proposal, you'll find that the lighting regulations proposed is strictly for PUBLICLY owned athletic facilities. Your neighbors backyard tennis court hardly qualifies as public, even if they decide to hold a family foundation event - still private property."

Robin Lynch posed a few questions:
"What would be the worst scenario here? Build the turf field and improve the lighting at the p and z's current height allowance? The current field will be replaced with a state of the art turf facility and the youth sports will have ample time to spend on this new field. The need for youth to have to go out at 8:00 at night would be eliminated with the increased usage of the new field. Does it really cost one million dollars for a turf field or is that number including the seating, lights as well?"
