Take time for training now.....

I remember asking our boys to clean their rooms.  Their version of clean and my version of clean were miles apart.  The same thing was true with making their beds, or putting toys away in the playroom.  I expected them to know how I wanted things, without ever taking the time to teach them.  I was way too busy with other things, and didn’t understand the importance of helping them learn these skills.

So what can you do?

Take time to work with your children and teach them the skills.  If you want them to clean the playroom a certain way, work together with them and show them what you expect.  If your definition of a clean kitchen includes clearing the table, washing the dishes and putting them in the dishwasher, show your kids what you expect.  Then ask them what their understanding is of a clean kitchen.

Give them a chance to learn, and our children will develop a sense of self confidence and responsibility.  Learning is a life-long adventure.  Keep in mind that your priorities with chores may not be their priorities, at least until they are adults.  Do take the time to work with your children….it will help all of you!
