Students and staff returned to the building to complete their day, according to the letter. Canty also said in his statment that all  program scheduling for the day has resumed as planned.

Earlier this afternoon, Wilton High School's website posted this letter from the principal which addresses the bomb threat:

"Dear students and families,

I am writing to inform you that we learned today of a bomb threat here at Wilton High School.

The high school administration immediately contacted members of the Wilton Police Department to thoroughly conduct a threat assessment.  Police personnel consulted with school administrators to determine an appropriate response.

As a precaution, we conducted an emergency evacuation.  Wilton High School administration followed all protocols defined for an emergency situation.  School administrators and maintenance personnel thoroughly searched the building for suspicious items during the evacuation.  It was determined that it was safe for students and staff to return to the building.

We are working closely with the Wilton Police Department as they conduct a criminal investigation of this situation.  If you have any information regarding today’s incident, please contact a high school administrator or the Wilton Police Department.

We anticipate that all activities at Wilton High School will proceed as scheduled for the remainder of the day and evening.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Tim Canty

Principal"
