'Arts for Healing' Panel at Library

The will host Arts for Healing, an organization that serves the special needs population who live with communication disorders, as it present "Staying In Tune with Your Child" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28.

The mission of Arts for Healing is to break through barriers that isolate these children and adults, creating a channel for self-expression through the arts. This panel discussion will help parents understand the importance of the arts, play and aquatics in fostering emotional development in their children. It is through self awareness, confidence, and personal growth that academic learning can be most efficient, and potential ultimately reached.

Facilitating the panel discussion will be Dr. Jules Spotts, who holds a Ph.D. in Psychology. Panelists will include:

  • Billy Ayres, Musical Theater Workshop coordinator, Masters in Special Education and B.S. in psychology;
  • Mary Newcomb, art therapist; 
  • Karen Nisenson, M.M., M.A., MT-BC; founder/director of Arts for Healing; M.A. in Music Therapy from New York University;
  • Audrey Spellman, certified special educator and consultant with advanced training in the Developmental, Individual Difference, Relationship-based DIR/ Floortime approach;
  • Ailene Tisser, M.A.PT - pediatric physical therapist.
