As a warm-up for Veterans Day, presents a bit of history about the men and women of Wilton and their participation in the wars from pre-Revolutionary War days through Iraq and Afghanistan. The talk by local historian, author, and former First Selectman Bob Russell will take place 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9.
Russell will speak about those who served our country in times of war and also highlight the sometimes surprising ways in which local women helped the war effort, including the Woman's Land Army in World War I, led by local resident Grace Schenck.
Don't be surprised if all of these people sound like old friends, as everywhere you go in Wilton there is a road or park or other place name that originated with these men and women who made Wilton what it is! It promises to be an enlightening and entertaining evening, with ample opportunity for saying, 'I didn't know that!'
Copies of Bob's Wilton, Connecticut: Three Centuries of People, Places, and Progress will be available for purchase and signing.
There is no charge for the program, but please register here online.
