Norwalk and Mark Twain: Friendships and connections between the author and area communities
During his years living in nearby Redding, Mark Twain developed many unusual and interesting friendships with area residents and their communities.
On Sunday, Sept. 26, at 3 p.m., Madeleine and Ed Eckert, local historians and long-time Silvermine area residents, will describe some of these relationships and their connections to the city of Norwalk. The presentation takes place at the Wilton Historical Society, 224 Danbury Road, and includes a tour of the new exhibit, Wilton's Neighbor: Mark Twain.
Particularly, the presentation focuses on Mark Twain's friendships with Norwalk residents Frederick Dimon, a shipping merchant, and Edward Keeler Lockwood, a leader in the mercantile industry. Other topics covered include the break-in and theft of valuables from Mark Twain's Redding home, and his connection to the community of artists living in Silvermine at the time.
