Schools

Side by Side Yoga

Most parents find trying to fit in exercise while tending young children difficult.   More so since many parents spend several hours a week sitting around waiting while their children attend Karate, ballet or other activities.

To meet the needs of busy parents, Side by Side yoga classes for adults and children will be offered at Town & Country Montessori School starting May 27.    While children attend a yoga class focusing on play, singing and moving the body, parents will be in a separate class with more intensive yoga instruction.

“I know that I am often frustrated when I have to wait for my children as they attend classes.  I often think ‘why can’t they offer something for me so that I’m not just sitting around wasting time,’” says Elayne Robertson Demby, a Weston resident who will be teaching the parent portion of the yoga class.

Ms. Demby says that one day she and fellow Westonite, Deby Goldenberg a yoga instructor who works with children, realized that they should teach classes side by side so that parents could practice yoga while their children were separately entertained.

The parent portion of the class will be a Power Yoga Basics class.   It’s a bit more physical than the usual yoga class, says Ms. Demby, and will focus on linking breath to movement.   Adults will be welcome even if they do not have children in the children’s class.

Ms. Goldenberg says that the children’s portion will be appropriate for children ages 2 1/2 to 6.

The classes will be offered on Fridays at 1 pm at Town & Country Montessori School located at 531 Danbury Road in Wilton.  It will be offered as a four class session starting May 27th through June 17th.  Classes will be $125 for four sessions plus $50 for each additional child.  For additional information contact Elayne Robertson Demby at edemby@optonline.net, Deby Goldenberg at 203-557-3014.
