History Was Made Wednesday at Miller-Driscoll

Wilton's youngest elementary students were treated to visits from special historical guests during their school's annual "Women in History" Day.

Parents of Miller Driscoll students shouldn't have been surprised to hear their children say, "I met Helen Keller at my school today." What's more, rumor had it that Betsy Ross, Queen Victoria, Eleanor Roosevelt, Indira Ghandi and Susan B. Anthony were among the famous women walking the halls at the school Wednesday morning as part of National Women's History Month.

In honor of the commemorative month, the Miller-Driscoll PTA, along with the school's librarians, Joyce Torres and Barbara Clancy, organized its 16th annual Women in History Day to celebrate important women of the past and present. More than 50 volunteers dressed up in character to teach the students about the facts and dates that made each historical woman significant in history.

Some of the other women who visited classrooms included Gloria Steinem, Snadra Day O'Connor, Amelia Earhart, Mary Cassat, Joan of Arc and Mother Teresa.
