Volunteer Opportunities Abound in Fairfield County

Those needing to fulfill school volunteer hours have plenty of places to choose from at which they can pledge their time.

 

With the beginning of a new school year on the horizon, many students are soon to be seeking places at which to volunteer their time, be it for a school requirement or simply the desire to give back to others. 

Luckily for these youngsters, there are plenty of volunteer opportunities Fairfield County.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Volunteering is welcomed at Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Stratford Tuesday through Friday from 10 to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 to 4 p.m. Advanced registration is required. Call 203.333.2642 x102 or email volunteer@habitatcfc.org for more information. 

UNITED WAY

United Way of Coastal Fairfield County has compiled a calendar which shines a light on volunteer possibilities available each month. You can download this calendar by clicking here. For more information, call Sara German at 203.339.6310 or email sgerman@unitedwaycfc.org. 

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CRISIS CENTER

Located in Norwalk, the Domestic Violence Crisis Center has helped more than 3,800 people in Fairfield County and beyond. The center—which offers programs to middle school and high school students—is always looking for volunteers. In order to get involved, call 203.588.9100 and ask for the volunteer liaison or email volunteer@dvccct.org. 

Are you a fan of the outdoors? The Nature Conservancy accepts volunteers to help protect nature and the environment. Those interested in volunteering should contact the conservancy at 203.226.4991. 

HOMELESS SHELTERS

Poverty is no stranger to any area. In fact, Fairfield County's got its fair share of homeless shelters scattered throughout the area. These shelters often provide soup kitchens for the homeless, and volunteers are always welcomed. For a listing of homeless shelters nearest you, click here
