WHS Student Government Turns Healthy Rivalry between Clubs into Food Drive Plenty

Throughout the month of November, the the Wilton High School community has collected canned and non-perishable foods for the Lower Fairfield County Food Bank, under the leadership of the student government Executive Board.

"We've been collecting the foods on primarily a club basis as just about every student in the school is involved in one or more clubs, groups, or activities run by Wilton High School," said Jackson Walker, a member of the Executive Board for student government.

According to Walker, by separating the clubs into two categories based on participation, large and small, the food drive switched into high gear through the added twist of competition.

The top two clubs from both divisions were awarded a cash prize from the executive board for student government.

The winners were The Debate Club (large club category) and the Class of 2015 (the small club category).

On Tuesday afternoon, despite the piercing cold and drizzle, the intrepid executive board members and their advisor, Rob Perry, maintained good cheer as they went about their project. About a dozen students carried or wheeled brimming boxes crates of canned goods to the curb, where another group loaded up a truck destined for the CT Food Bank.
