Wilton Security Task Force Advises Building Committees

The following update was submitted from the Wilton Security Task Force:

The Wilton Security Task Force is continuing its critical work to enhance the safety and security of Wilton schools and public facilities. At the recent meeting, Task Force Chairman, Hal Clark, Chief Michael Lombardo, Jack Suchy and Roseann DeSimone reported on their meeting with the Comstock Building Committee sub-group where they discussed ideas and suggestions about building access and security. Hal Clark noted that “The Task Force is pleased that the groups using the Community Center understand the security requirements for this important town facility that is used by both seniors and students.”

John Murphy, Ken Post and Jory Higgins reported on the school security actions. At the onset of school on training day, Emergency Operating Procedures were reviewed with all staff.  Security expert, Dr. S. David Bernstein of Forensics Consultants, has been contracted to do security training.  Lockdown and in-house drills will be practiced throughout the school system and parents will be informed and notified.  The Task Force emphasized that the schools will not become fortresses, but vulnerabilities will be addressed.

Terrie Schwartz summarized the Task Force meeting with the Miller Driscoll Building Committee.  Jeffrey Ventor of Security Consulting and Randall Luther of Tai Soo Kim Partners Architects summarized the steps that will be taken in the design recommendations to address the security concerns.

Hal Clark summed up the Security Task Force actions thus far: “We are actively assessing the security needs of our schools and public facilities and with the input of experts in the field, as well as our own experts on the Task Force, we are making recommendations to remedy any current security gaps and also to evaluate the requirements in the Town’s future renovations and facility construction.”
