WILTON EDUCATION FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 2012 GET SMART FOR WILTON 5K

Over 300 local runners will compete in 5K to help raise funds for Wilton schools

The Wilton Education Foundation is proud to announce the 4th Annual Get Smart for Wilton 5K, to be held on Sunday, May 27, 2012. On the last Sunday each May, runners and walkers of all ages come out to support Wilton’s greatest assets: the town’s children and educators. In just four short years, the race has grown to more than 300 participants. All proceeds go to the Wilton schools to fund technology, the arts and staff development.

A fun, active way to kick off the spring holiday weekend, the event draws everyone from strollers and casual joggers to serious runners and marathoners, all excited be a part of this superb community-wide event. The energy at the race is palpable, as families, neighbors and classmates cheer one another on, enjoying the shared camaraderie. The fundraiser’s 5K route starts and ends at the Wilton High School track, featuring Cider Mill and Wilton High School prominently along the course.

"I am so proud of the generous support the Get Smart for Wilton 5K receives from the community,” said Kacky Theoharides, one of the SOL Sisters, who are chairing the event. “The highly impressive number of participants coupled with the involvement and support of Wilton businesses truly makes this event special. Clearly, we all have a shared commitment of bettering Wilton schools.”

Cash prizes will be given to the top three male and female runners, and awards will go to the top three runners in each division. The cost is $20 per entrant. Participants receive a T-shirt, a bagel, and the opportunity to run, catch up with friends, and raise money for all four Wilton public schools. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the race starts at 9:00 a.m. To pre-register, visit www.active.com or download the online registration form at www.wiltoneducationfoundation.org.

The Foundation has been fortunate to have Connecticut Coffee & Grill, The Moore Center, SmartWater, and Smile Art Orthodontics as sponsors of the event. In addition, some of the winners have generously donated their cash prizes back to the Wilton Education Foundation.
