Kiwanis Golf Outing to Benefit VNH & WYC
The Kiwanis Club of Wilton recently announced that the proceeds of their 4th annual Golf Outing, set for Monday October 1st at Silvermine Golf Club, will benefit the Wilton Youth Council, the Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County, and their own Wilton Kiwanis Foundation. This year’s event will offer two playing options, the Classic 18-hole course, or an Executive 9-hole tourney starting later in the day. The golf will be followed by dinner, silent and live auctions, raffles and prizes, and is being sponsored by Hoyt Funeral, Bruce Bennett Nissan, Titus Built, Wilton Bank, Servco Oil, The Wilton Bulletin, and many others. Co-Chair Jeff Turner said “Thanks to the generous sponsors and players participating over the past 3 years, this event has become our largest fundraiser of the year, and to date has contributed over $75,000 of funds to distribute to worthy community organizations. We hope this year builds upon those successes so we can help fund the Telehealth Program offered by Visiting Nurse & Hospice and the important counseling services provided by Wilton Youth Council.”

The Wilton Youth Council was established by a concerned group of parents following a 1980s survey showing a marked increase in underage drinking among youth in the community. Findings indicated a need for better communication and inter-disciplinary organization among our schools, police, town government and parent groups to combat this and other risky behaviors. Working quietly in the background, Wilton Youth Council sponsors youth centered programs and activities in town and in the schools as resources of support for our teens, pre-teens and parents. Arranging speakers at parenting workshops to illuminate parent concerns, publishing newsletter articles to spark parent-teen conversation about dangers of underage drinking and drug use, and sponsoring the Post Graduation Party for our High School Seniors to enjoy a safe gathering to celebrate, are just a few examples of how the Wilton Youth Council works to move the community forward in a positive direction as families.
