Cherry struck out eight of the first 10 hitters he faced en route to registering 15 K's on the afternoon. He blew a fastball past Chris Pavo to end the game and record the no-hitter, which is unofficially, the only one in
Gerard Spiegel (Trumbull): The junior pitcher faced the minimum of hitters (21) in an 8-0 victory over Darien. He was dominating early on and at one point, retired 19 straight batters. Spiegel struck out 12 and went the distance to record the no-hitter for
Mike Forgione (North Branford): The Merrimack-bound baseball player has started the season off piping hot. In the first week of games, the senior shortstop from has gone 14-for-22 (.636) with three triples.
Derick Edwards (Norwalk): The senior lacrosse player for the had a game to remember against the Westhill Vikings. Edwards put together a double hat trick plus one, scoring a remarkable seven goals against the Vikings. Not bad for someone coming off a back injury.
Pat Cragen (Oxford): The talented volleyball player forput his signature on a brilliant performance against Wolcott Tech on Tuesday. Cragen dished out 48 assists and made 17 digs as Oxford cruised past the Tech.
Patty Sciglimpaglia (Norwalk) The ace of the Norwalk girls softball team was stellar against Trinity Catholic. She racked up 15 K's on her way to recording the first no-hitter of her career, blanking the Crusaders 7-0.
Catie Ledwick and Lindsay Koch (Weston): The dynamic duo from the girls lacrosse team had three goals and two assists each in a 15-6 victory over Bunnell.
Doug Herzog (Masuk): One of the stars of the Masuk boys volleyball team, Herzog was all over the court against Trumbull High School. He recorded 21 assists, eight kills, and 14 service points in a 3-0 sweep over the Golden Eagles.
Rahmi Roundtree (Cheshire): The junior athlete not only has one of the best names in the area, but the kid can just flat-out fly. In a meet against Fairfield Prep and East Haven, Roundtree swept the He won the 100 in a time of 11.2 and followed that performance up with a victory in the 200, clocking a 23.3.
Tatum Buckley (Masuk): A member of the girls softball team at , Buckley fired a complete game 2-hitter in a 3-0 victory over Bethel. She registered 14 K's in the win.
Jimmy Sanzone (Weston): The senior outfielder opened the season with a four hit performance against Platt Tech. On Monday against Joel Barlow, Sanzone had a grand slam and six RBI's in Weston's 15-1 victory.
BEST AND MOST INTERESTING GAME
Torrey Pines. When you hear those two words, it's usually because the PGA tour is making a stop at one of the most beautiful places in the world. But last Saturday, the high school team from that town flew all the way to Darien to take on the Blue Wave in a lacrosse game. Yes, the defending California state championship travelled more than 3,000 miles to take on the juggernaut that is Darien lacrosse. It was a hard fought contest until the Blue Wave unleashed its fury on Torry Pines. Leading 8-6, Darien ripped off six unanswered goals. Henry West, Case Matheis, Matheis again, Bobby Weaver, Brendan Hathaway, and Weaver again recorded the goal in the outburst en route to a 16-10 Darien victory. The Blue Wave remains undefeated.

"I just woke up and did my normal routine. I was kind of feeling anxious before the game. I got to the field real early and just waited for the bus, but other than that it was pretty normal."

"I think it's confidence. I think my injury got into my head," said Edwards. "I was just trying to find the open spots and my teammates found me and it seemed to work.
