BEST AND MOST INTERESTING GAME

Torrey Pines. When you hear those two words, it's usually because the PGA tour is making a stop at one of the most beautiful places in the world. But last Saturday, the high school team from that town flew all the way to Darien to take on the Blue Wave in a lacrosse game. Yes, the defending California state championship travelled more than 3,000 miles to take on the juggernaut that is Darien lacrosse. It was a hard fought contest until the Blue Wave unleashed its fury on Torry Pines. Leading 8-6, Darien ripped off six unanswered goals. Henry West, Case Matheis, Matheis again, Bobby Weaver, Brendan Hathaway, and Weaver again recorded the goal in the outburst en route to a 16-10 Darien victory. The Blue Wave remains undefeated.

LOOK WHO'S TALKING

Dave Cherry, Pomperaug senior pitcher after firing a no-hitter against Immaculate of Danbury:

"I just woke up and did my normal routine. I was kind of feeling anxious before the game. I got to the field real early and just waited for the bus, but other than that it was pretty normal."

Derick Edwards, Norwalk lacrosse player coming off a back injury and scoring seven goals in the Bears 17-11 victory over Westhill:

"I think it's confidence. I think my injury got into my head," said Edwards. "I was just trying to find the open spots and my teammates found me and it seemed to work.

Alex Whitten, head coach of New Canaan lacrosse team, after watching arch-rival Darien score 10 unanswered goals in 13-3 loss to the Blue Wave:

"Fundamentally, they're the soundest team in the state, and if you let them have it, they take it. I'm not taking anything from Darien because they were by far the better team today."

Trumbull baseball coach Phil Pacelli after watching Gerard Spiegel throw a no-hitter against Darien:

“Gerard’s performance was incredible. He walked the second batter of the game who was then erased on a strike em out, throw em out double play to end the first inning. He was perfect for the remainder of the game retiring 19 in a row. It was the first no hitter we have had since I became head coach.”

BOSTON (Reuters) - The average 401(k) retirement balance for U.S. workers hit a record high of $80,900 in the first quarter, a growth spurt of 75 percent since the stock market's nadir in March 2009, Fidelity Investments said on Thursday based on a survey of its accounts. Most of the recovery is linked to a stock market rally that has lifted the broad S&P 500 Index 145 percent since the close of trading on March 9, 2009. The 401(k) recovery looks even better for workers 55 and older, according to Boston-based Fidelity, the largest U.S. administrator of 401(k) retirement plans. Those pre-retirement workers have seen their average balance nearly double to $255,000 since the first quarter of 2009 when the average balance was $130,700. The analysis covers people who have been with their current employer 10 or more years, Fidelity said.

PR - It appears that the writer of this item is none other than McMurphy who has been polluting theRead More Patch since the new format arose (just click on the writer's name and you will be taken to McMurphy's profile page). This person is also Randall McMurphy and all the old names including AZ. From all indications, he/she is also DB Cooper so this person is posting on this Board and then commenting on his/her own posts. As someone pointed out a couple of weeks ago, trying to trick other readers is a violation of the Patch's rules, and yet it continues.
