Confusion in Connecticut over Healthcare Changes

Sen. Boucher Letter to Insurance Commissioner – Send Help

Hartford, CT – Senator Toni Boucher (R-Wilton) is disappointed in Governor Malloy’s decision not to implement President Obama’s suggested delay.  The president’s proposal would have allowed insurance providers to extend policies for those who lost insurance coverage due to the Affordable Care Act.

Following the governor’s announcement and a subsequent meeting by the Insurance Committee, Senator Boucher expressed her concern in a letter to Insurance Commissioner Thomas Leonardi.

In the letter Boucher points out that many constituents have contacted her office and relayed in detail the loss of their insurance and difficulties they have faced communicating with insurers and using Access Health CT.

“These constituents are hurting and are anxious.  This kind of confusion is frustrating for them and they deserve some answers,” said Sen. Boucher. “We need to protect our residents not turn our back on them.”

As of today, many more families are losing their insurance due to Obamacare than are receiving insurance. For those whose policies are set to expire by the New Year, cancellation notices will be coming soon.  Next - will be employers of small businesses and their staff who will ultimately be forced to abide by the Obamacare rules too.

“What is the Insurance Department doing to address the concerns of these families who have lost insurance plans or face changes in both cost and access?  These people are looking for help,” added Boucher.
