Sen. Boucher Statement on Private Lawsuit Filed Against UCONN

Hartford, CT – State Senator Toni Boucher (R-Wilton) ranking member of the Higher Education and Education Committees of the General Assembly released the following statement today re: the federal suit filed against the University of Connecticut by current and former female students alleging that UConn has violated their rights under Title IX by failing to afford them the protection and rights that should have been afforded to them as survivors of rape or sexual assault when they were students at UConn.

“My heart goes out to the students that may be affected and hope these young women are getting the help they need.  Proper procedures and strict protocols must be put in place so that our college campuses are made as safe and secure as they possibly can be. 

“I look forward to the legislature's public hearing on this extremely important issue.  We need to determine how our laws can be strengthened and have an opportunity to make our policies a model for the rest of the nation. No one should have to go through an ordeal like this.”
