Fire Department Plans 9/11 Ceremony

The memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

On Saturday, September 11, 2010, the Wilton Fire Department will host the annual rememberance ceremony in honor of the Wilton residents and emergency responders who perished in the attacks on September 11, 2001.

Wilton firefighters, police officers, EMS responders, family members and friends of those lost on that day will gather at Fire Headquarters, 236 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT. The ceremony, beginning at 10 a.m., will be held at the permanent monument dedicated to the memory of the five Wilton residents, as well as the New York City emergency services workers, that becamse the fallen heroes of September 11, 2001.

"This ceremony is a fitting and respectful tribute to the emergency responders and citizens who gave their lives on the fateful day," said Fire Chief Paul Milositz. "It offers us all an opportunity to remember and honor their sacrifice and service to humanity. We must never forget the thousands of innocent men and women who went to work that day and never returned home, we strongly believe that every American now shares this responsibility to never forget them."

All Wilton emergency services organizations plan to participate in the ceremony which will feature tributes ot those lost, patriotic songs and prayers offered by local religious leaders. As n previous years, family members of Wilton resident who perished at the World Trade Center site and Wilton residents who lost loved ones that day have been invited. Again this year, it is designed to be an uplifting event.

The ceremony is expected to be completed by 11 a.m. and will be followed by refreshments at Fire Headquarters. Media, citizens and emergency service organizations are also invited to attend.
