Mark Your Calendar for Farming Fare for the Mind

The Wilton Library will host two events co-sponsored by Millstone Farm and the Betsy and Jesse Fink Foundation tentatively scheduled for March.

March may be a little too early for plants to start blooming, but it's certainly not too early to start looking toward the growing season.

Millstone Farm and the Betsy and Jesse Fink Foundation will offer two presentations at the Wilton Library in March, both with any eye toward our country's agrarian roots and the recent resurgence (or, at least, rediscovery) of sustainable agriculture.

The first will take place on March 18 and is titled "The Women's Land Army of America." Led by author Elaine F. Weiss, described in the preview as "a spunkier, and more controversial Rosie the Riveter," the presentation will focus on how "for ninety years the farmerette has been lost, totally and inexplicably forgotten, wiped from the national memory." Weiss will bright that story of the farmerette back to American history.

The second lecture was set to occur on March 21 and focus on the power of connecting with the natural world. Permaculture designer and wilderness educator Connor Stedman will head the talk and educate the audience on the roots of sustainable practices, the importance of land stewardship and explore "how connecting with the natural world, practicing permaculture design in our homes, farms and common spaces and tending the wild ecosystems around us can both heal the earth and support human communities to thrive."

The talk has since fallen into limbo because of scheduling conflicts, and will likely be rescheduled.

Weiss' presentation will go from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Brubeck Room.

There will be no charge for either but registration is recommended and more information will be available on the Wilton Library's and Millstone Farm's sites. To register, please call 203-762-3950 or visit www.wiltonlibrary.org/events. Wilton Library, 137 Old Ridgefield Road, Wilton.
