Resolution #1: Go Polar?

The annual Polar Plunge is set for New Year's day in Westport.

With most bodies of water in Wilton frozen over at this point, those that wish to take a quick New Year's day dip to cool off after the holiday frenzy have a chance to do so at the Polar Plunge in nearby Westport.

At 10 a.m. Friday, brave swimmers will start their New Year with a splash at Compo Beach.

"Just run in, sumberge your head and run out,"  said Robin Myers, one of the event organizers. "The last couple of years we've had ice on the beach."

Friday's forecast calls for rain and a high of 41 degrees.

Myers said the Polar Plunge ends with coffee for some and champagne for others in a quick get-together after the icy adventure.

The frigid event benefits the Save the Children's Schools and Community Organizations, which works to meet educational needs at poor schools throughout the country. Save the Children USA is a member of the International Save the Children Alliance, a global network of 29 independent organizations working in more than 120 countries.

About 25 people participate every year in the polar plunge and the group raises about $1,000 with each plunge for the global organization.

The team asks those interested in participating to register at Active.com and make a donation:  http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1821391

A $25 donation is requested as a minimum.
