More than 100 softball players, fans, volunteer umpires and family members came together in Fairfield on June 29 to help raise funds to open the first Cancer Support Community in southern Connecticut, according to Robert Carraro's wrote in his blog on charitable events.

Proceeds from the softball tournament went toward providing free cancer support and education for patients and their families living with cancer.

Carraro shared these highlights with us:

  • Orange Ale House went 4-0 to take the championship.
  • Seporah’s Sluggers from Meriden took the runner-up trophy at 3-1.
  • The champion and runner-up teams were separated only by their head-to-head game won 4-3 by Orange Ale House in extra innings.
