Wilton Newcomers Raise $15,000+ for Education Foundation

Silent auction yields sizable donation.

The Wilton Newcomers Club is donating more than $15,000 to the Wilton Educational Foundation. The majority of the donation was collected from the Wilton Newcomer Silent Auction fundraiser, held on April 10th.

The fund raising event featured more than 100 items, food and wine donated from local businesses. The evening began with speeches by First Selectman Bill Brennan, Superintendent of Schools Gary Richards and Wilton Education Foundation Chairman Kit Smith, who emphasized their appreciation for local residents and business owners to directly participate in expanding the School System capabilities.

"Every dollar donated will go directly to the Wilton School District," remarked Kit Smith the Chairman of the Wilton Education Foundation. "In this difficult economic climate, the Wilton Newcomers Club's Donation of $15,000 will go a long way toward teacher development, the purchase of SMARTboards and the installation of wireless networks for the Wilton School District," continued Smith.

"The Wilton Education Foundation is special to Newcomers of Wilton since so many of our members move to town specifically for the schools. The programs that WEF organizes not only enhances our students' learning experience but also keeps Wilton competitive with neighboring towns," Julie Steckel, Fundraising Chair for Wilton Newcomers Club, commented.

Steckel continued, "I am grateful to all the volunteers, attendees, non-profits and local business owners who supported us including the restaurants, who donated the food, namely: Bon Appetit, Luca, The Village Market, Pinnochio Pizza, Michelina's, Wave Hill Breads, The Village Gourmet, Tuscan Oven and Letizias Pizza. Special thanks also goes to the Artifact Gallery, to Ancona's Wines and our sponsors: The Wilton Bank, Catamount Wealth Management and M.J. Black Design + Build".
