Wilton Rotary Donates $4,000 to Haitian Orphanage

The funds will go toward a generator to power the orphanage and a nearby school.

The Wilton Rotary Club has donated $4,000 to the Center for Hope, a Haitian oprhanage.

The donation will be used for an electrical generator for the orphanage and a school that are nearing completion in Hinche, which is a small town in the mountains about 80 miles from Port-au-Prince.  Hinche and the Center of Hope were not damaged by the earthquake in Port-au-Prince.

The Wilton Rotary has been a supporter of the project for the past several years, and Mr. Spencer traveled to the site in 2006 and brought donations of clothing and school supplies from Wilton.

When completed, the orphanage will be home to approximately 100 children, and the school will teach 200 children.  Pastor St. Juste serves the French-speaking Baptist Church of Stamford, and Mr. Newton is the President of the Board of Directors of the Center of Hope.

The Wilton Rotary raises funds for this and other international and local projects through its Craft Fair in May, Rose Sale in June, and Carnival in September.
