New Covenant House Fundraiser Features Chefs, Shopping and a Panel of Specialty Business Owners

This fundraiser for New Covenant House soup kitchen serving lower Fairfield County, "Harvest Table ... Sharing Abundance With Those in Need," takes place Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at The Italian Center in Stamford.

New Covenant House of Hospitality (NCH),  the only soup kitchen serving all of lower Fairfield County, is hosting a holiday fundraiser. The event, entitled, “Harvest Table ... Sharing Abundance With Those in Need" takes place Sunday, Nov.  3, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at The Italian Center in Stamford.  

Throughout the event, chefs and hospitality providers will be on hand to provide food samplings and ideas for seasonal entertaining at the Harvest Marketplace.

  • LaRocca’s Country Market (Stamford) will whip up healthy and delicious kale smoothies and salads

  • Margaret Sapir of Wave Hill Breads (Norwalk) will showcase a wide array of  artisan-bakery offerings

  • Pottery Barn (Westport) will showcase table décor for setting a beautiful holiday table and provide styling tips for Thanksgiving.

  • With Love from the Cupboard (Westport) will feature samples of pastries.

  • Sabita of Sabita’s Holistic Center (Southport) will provide an array of wellness teas for guests to sample

  • Sharon Sweeney (Greenwich) will showcase an array of cappuccino and espresso drinks for guests to enjoy

  • Café Oo La La (Stamford) will serve crunchy grilled French toast, pure maple syrup and fall fruit compote

  • Additionally, a silent auction will allow guests to get a jump on holiday shopping. Offerings at the Holiday Sideboard will include gift certificates to area restaurants, spas and other service providers in the lower Fairfield County area.  An on-site raffle will offer guests a chance to win a sunset sail that includes a cocktail party for four.

    A holiday-themed lunch will be followed by a presentation that highlights the success of three local entrepreneurs:

    • Rosemary Cass of Fairfield, creator and publisher of Act Two, a lifestyle magazine
    • Marina Marchese of Weston, founder of Red Bee Artisanal Honey
    • Jackie Ekholm of Greenwich, founder and owner of Moo Chocolates

    New Covenant House serves three meals a day, 365 days of the year to those in need. Admission to the event is $50 per person and the donation of one nonperishable food item to help stock the shelves of the NCH Food Pantry.

    About New Covenant House of Hospitality (NCH)
    NCH provides three meals per day and also provides a weekly food pantry program for approximately 300 families each month.  In addition, NCH has after-school and summer programs that provide poor and disadvantaged children attending the Yerwood Center with a nutritious breakfast and a hot meal at 4 p.m. before heading home.  

    Since this past June, NCH  has provided Inspirica with 25 meals per day for families living in the shelter. All proceeds from the luncheon will help feed the hungry members of the community, who arrive at the door of NCH 365 days a year.
