Styles reflected in photo exhibition at Wilton Library through September

Wilton Library's September art exhibition, 5 Photographers 5 Styles, is now on view featuring three Wilton and two Norwalk photographers.

A diversity of style and subject matter highlights Wilton Library’s September art exhibition, 5 Photographers 5 Styles, which opened Friday, Sept. 6.  Five local area photographers from Wilton and Norwalk display their stunning gifts of manipulating images essentially using similar equipment.  The photographers are Vince Balzano, Rick Locke and Zita Mercurio from Wilton, and Paul Wear and Dennis Hyde from Norwalk.  They are united by their passion for photography and as members of the Wilton Arts Council, yet their styles and perspectives are vastly different in how they produce their art.  Wilton Library’s art chairman, Ed MacEwen, noted, “These professional photographers do a lot of behind-the-scenes work for WAC Focus exhibitions and I thought it was only fitting that they get to showcase their own talents.”

Vince Balzano’s images are not always ‘beautiful’ in a traditional ‘postcard’ sense, but he strives to make each image cropped to achieve balance or unique perspective.

Rick Locke’s photographs feature vivid colors, striking patterns and textures and unique images resulting from reflections off water or glass or by simply changing the perspective of his camera lens.

Zita Mercurio sees in nature the elegance and simplicity of repeated patterns. Through the lens of her camera she tries to capture the beauty and artistry of the world around her.  Starting out as a fashion photographer, she has honed her craft over many years including the advent of the digital photography world.

Dennis Hyde likes to capture moments of humanity or glimpses of the natural world untouched by man.

Paul Wear began his love of photography in California at the age of 10 when a neighbor introduced him to black and white photography with a developing kit.  Today he is a master of hidden composition; his images go through a metamorphosis that evolves over time in the “digital darkroom.”  Paul’s art reflects his own unique perspective of the world.

The exhibition runs through Friday, Sept. 27 and is comprised of more than 100 images, most of which are available for purchase with proceeds benefiting Wilton Library.  The library is located at 137 Old Ridgefield Road in the heart of Wilton Center.  Library hours are Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Fridays, 10 – 6; Saturdays 10 – 5 and beginning September 8, Sundays, 1 – 5.   For information: 203-762-3950, ext. 213 or www.wiltonlibrary.org
