Wilton Library is looking for Wilton artists

Wilton artists are invited to bring their best works to Wilton Library's Summer Show, with a Call for Entries on Saturday, June 29 and Monday, July 1. The opening reception is July 12 at 6 pm. The show runs through Aug. 30.

It may have been a rainy spring, but nothing dampens the spirit of Wilton artists who are eager to show their “stuff” at Wilton Library’s 69th Annual Summer Show Art Exhibition which opens with a reception on Friday, July 12 at 6 p.m.  Before the unveiling of this perennial showcase, a Call for Entries takes place for all adult artists who live in Wilton on Saturday, June 29 and Monday, July 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.  Each artist may submit a total of two works in the categories of paintings, drawings, pastels or sculptures.  The two pieces must be framed and wired, ready for hanging.  Additional information and downloadable forms may be found on the library’s website beginning June 4 at www.wiltonlibrary.org and clicking on the “Call for Entries” item about the exhibition.  Printed forms also are available at the circulation desk in the library.

The library’s art chairman and curator of the show, Ed MacEwen, noted, “This show is always a favorite in the town.  It runs through July and August and gives residents an opportunity to see how many talented friends and neighbors they have.  Each year the show gets a little bigger, with more and more artists interested in showing what they have been working on during the cold weather months.”  This year’s display is expected to surpass previous years, with more than 50 artists exhibiting 100 or more entries featuring a variety of styles, media and subject matter.

The reception on July 12 is open to the public. The exhibition runs through Friday, August 30.  The majority of works will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library.  Viewing hours during the summer are Mondays through Thursdays, 10 – 8; Fridays, 10 – 6; Saturdays, 10 – 5.  The library is closed Sundays in the summer beginning June 23.  The library also will be closed on July 4.  For information, visit www.wiltonlibrary.org or contact Janet Crystal, jcrystal@wiltonlibrary.org, 203-762-3950, ext. 226 or Ed MacEwen, 203-227-8502.
