Wilton Library's Hot & Cool Jazz heats up with Amina Figarova Sextet June 15

The internationally-renowned Amina Figarova Sextet heats up a June night in a Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room concert on Saturday, June 15, 7:30 pm at Wilton Library.

Composer and pianist Amina Figarova brings her sextet to Wilton Library’s Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room on Saturday, June 15, from 7:30 to 9 p.m.  Though the musical group has experienced an ebb and flow of members for the past eighteen years, with Ms. Figarova at the helm they haven’t missed a beat. Their all-original repertoire provides a distinct voice for the group, collaborating with musicians from the U.S. and Europe.  Ms. Figarova, who was born and raised in Azerbaijan and her husband, flutist Bart Platteau from Belgium, now live in New York, which gives the Wilton community an opportunity to hear this formidable sextet.  Being citizens of the world, and embracing musicians everywhere they go, the sextet has performed at the Newport Jazz Festival, have been invited repeatedly to New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, won critical and audience acclaim in Chicago, Detroit, Paris, Amsterdam — and New York.

According to Andrea Canter, writing for www.jazzpolice.com, "... This is a band that built its reputation playing original repertoire, each musician a powerful soloist in his or her own right; yet it is their signature interplay that moves the Amina Figarova Sextet above and beyond the vast majority of large chamber ensembles in modern jazz and places the pianist among the top echelon of composer/bandleaders...."

An informal reception follows the concert.  The Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room concerts are funded by the William and Karen Tell Foundation, with special thanks to Ed and Catherine Romer and Chris and Tish Brubeck.  Suggested donation for the evening is $10 per person. Advance registration is strongly recommended due to the popularity of these concerts.  Pre-registrants should arrive by 7:20 p.m. to be guaranteed seating.  Wait-listed and walk-ins will be accommodated after 7:20 if space is available.  To register, visit ww.wiltonlibrary.org and click on Events or call 203-762-3950, ext. 213.
