75 Objects/75 Years: An Anniversary Exhibition From The Permanent Collection
Wilton Historical Society shows off "the best of the best" from their collection.
Please join the Wilton Historical Society for the Grand Opening of “75 Objects/75 Years: Highlights from Our Permanent Collection, Thursday, March 21, from 5 – 7 pm, open to the public.
Paintings, photographs, textiles, tools, toys and memorabilia will be made available to the public, some for the first time. The Society’s most treasured items will be on display including portraiture of such local figures as the Lambert family and a Ralph Earl portrait of Mrs. Jesse Simcha Jonas Judah. Tools for home, trade, professions and the farm will be displayed. Historical clothing including infant-sized leather gloves and booties promise to be a rare treat. Unique relics and souvenirs, such as a poster advertising a moving performance of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, recall public events. Toys and games, including a wooden baby rattle ingeniously carved from a single piece of wood and a "stereo viewfinder," document the leisure activities of old Wilton families. Historic textiles consist of intricate schoolgirl needlework and a sumptuous "crazy quilt" of patchwork.
