I call myself STUPID for moving to CT. There are far too many people like Average Joe living here.

After some of the poor political decision makers, I call them Connecticrats.

I'm really tired of the negative comments especially those degrading Connecticut. I'm as unhappy asRead More the next guy about the high taxes, high cost of living, and rampant liberalism, but this is still a great state to live in. we have history, beauty, and location, to name a few. and what we have to consider is that the things we hate about CT can be fixed. I moved here from NYC several years ago....and take it from me, it could be worse! I don't know why I'm being so positive today, must be the nice weather this morning. anyway, back on topic, I always liked Nutmegger. it's unique and interesting.

This is news? Really? Why? Cover REAL news!

Why did the mother let the boy ask a stranger a question over and over? I find it alarming thatRead More people only know one side of the story yet have jumped on the store with both feet. This is what happened to KFC...and look how that one ended.

It's about time they ban unruly kids and their parents! Going out to eat has become a major taskRead More with people letting their brats run around and scream while you're paying top dollar for a meal. Kids should be seen and NOT heard! Leave them home if you can't control them!!!!

I have never understood the concept of consumers paying twice as much for produce simply because theRead More grocer asserts that it is "organic". After all, how does the consumer know whether it actually is "organic" or not? He only has the grocer's word for it. I have asked people that I have encountered buying "organic" produce about this, and they invariably look at me like I'm crazy, shake their heads and walk away. As far as I'm concerned, they are the crazy ones.
Roz Bratter July 23, 2014 at 05:13 pm
I bought the recalled nectarines and plums from Mrs. Green's in Briarcliff Manor. I thoughtRead More "organic" was safer but..I guess not. In the garbage they go!
Klaatu Boradanicto July 23, 2014 at 05:26 pm
One thing is for sure: this contaminated fruit will not be a total financial loss. If worse comesRead More to worst it will be sold to ship chandlers, who in turn will sell it to ships as provisions for the crews. After all, nobody cares if seafarers get sick or die. I was a seaman for 30 years and have seen it happen many times.
Kara Seymour July 23, 2014 at 09:32 am
the article clearly states the list of products recalled, two of which are organic, so no correctionRead More is warranted.
Don W July 23, 2014 at 06:14 pm
According to foodsafteynews.com the problem was with a filthy Wawona packing plant. After the plantRead More was cleaned there was no more Listeria present on any fruit. So why does this this article start with the word Organic?
EWCtzn July 24, 2014 at 12:45 am
Kara, the headline reads "Organic Fruit Sold Locally Recalled for Possible ListeriaRead More Contamination". It's clearly sensationalizing the two organic products.

Weed, no matter how "acceptable" by States is still illegal at the Federal level, there isRead More a dangerous game going on in the legal system that those that partake must be aware of, either legalize it at the Federal level, or be at the mercy of a DOJ that decides to crack down on the States...

Gee, I wonder why they didn't hold a town meeting and let all the people spew nonsense like that because they have accepted the gov't programming of the last century. Mindless idiots don't get a say, leave it to the evolved thinkers. That's why we elect officials, to keep plumbers and carpenters from making decisions they r not qualified to make. Even some of u high degree having idiots have such a small knowledge base that it's easy for the big bad gov't to scare u senseless. DOJ...who cares?! Get paid then move to a real democracy where they have yet to scare the general public senseless over exhaled marijuana smoke outdoors!

Sure, if you're the bicyclist you can - and should - do that, I agree. My point was that thisRead More article is about which towns are the safest for bicyclists and so my point was that I'm not sure that just because some towns have task forces, outreach, and engagement actually makes them truly any safer in reality without widening some roads, which are typically pretty narrow in CT, too narrow for cars and bikes to correctly share them.
Lesley July 10, 2014 at 12:23 pm
My apologies. I misunderstood.

Yes, it should follow that "distracted cycling" is against the law - easy enough to findRead More out. Enforcement of laws is certainly important safety of all users of the road, and is recognized as such, but there are four others that are necessary for a Town to become Bike-Friendly, which is the point of the survey initiative. Linda was on to one of the others - Education. For the rest of the "E"s, go to www.bikeleague.org/content/5-es and follow what is happening nation-wide to make cycling a safe and acceptable activity everywhere. As for this initial survey, the results are clearly not very accurate, and hopefully many more people will care to participate next time.

I didn't see any stats about how many bike accidents there were? In Fairfield, we see tons ofRead More bicycles. Most do not follow the rules of the road...they go the wrong way, they fail to signal, they fail to yield the right of way, at stop signs, and most are adults who certainly should know better. Yesterday I saw a man on a scooter, without a helmet, on So. Benson Rd...ON THE PHONE! I really believe that most of the roads, in Fairfield are unsafe for bicycling. It's not the fault of the roads, but traffic is very heavy in this town, and people do not use caution and common sense. I really believe a bike in this town, is extremely dangerous.
